Pre Cinco de Mayo Celebration (Acapulco Happy Hour)

The Acapulco Restaurant in Old Town has sweet Happy Hour Deals. Every Monday-Sunday from 2pm-8pm their Margaritas, Domestic Beers, Wine and appetizers are only $2.99! I have personally tried the Chicken Flautas and they were satisfying. I’ve also tried their lime, mango, strawberry, pineapple coconut, and raspberry margaritas and they were all tasty. My favorite however was the mango margarita and raspberry margarita. Wondering where the chips and salsa are? Once at the restaurant, help yourself to some colorful chips and flavorful but spicy salsa which is located in a chips and salsa bar next to the alcoholic beverage bar.

If you’re on a date with a boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, friend, or family member and would like to be a little adventurous, park in front of the Hacienda Hotel in Old Town and then go through the hotel to get to the restaurant. Thinking this was the only way to get to the restaurant, my boyfriend and I did this. It was both fun and suspenseful as you must go through the hotel lobby to the first elevator, then get off follow the arrows to the second elevator, follow more arrows and you eventually make it to the top floor of the hotel where the restaurant is located. Going on this scavenger hunt for the restaurant definitely makes a date more of a memorable experience.

Camping at Lake Morena!

This past weekend my boyfriend Chris and I had the best time camping for two nights at Lake Morena. Lake Morena is run by the County of San Diego and is located in Lake Morena Village in Campo, CA about an hour east of San Diego off the 8 highway. Lake Morena offers activities for everyone. It offers fishing (bass, bluegills, crappies, catfish, and more), hiking (Pacific Crest Trail goes through the park), picnicking and camping. The camp sites surround the lake and they range from hook-up which are meant for campers with RVs, partial hook-ups, and non-hook up sites which means that there is not a water hook-up on your specific site. Each camping site provides a parking spot for your car, a fire-pit with a removable grill and a picnic table. The Lake Morena Campground itself offers clean and free community showers and bathrooms as well as accessible potable water. If you run out of ice or need a soap bar while camping here don't fear, the gasoline/liquor store int he village is near. If you are craving a hardy lunch but are too tired from hiking to make it yourself, eat at Campo Diner. Campo Diner is a hole in the wall diner  located in what seems the middle of nowhere but it is delicious. It is about 7 minutes away from the campground when continuing East on the 8 highway. I definitely recommend their 1/2 pound bacon cheese burger with a chocolate shake. Their club sandwich also looked delicious. Camping at Lake Morena is a fun and tranquil experience great for first time campers as Chris and I were or for local San Diegans who want to connect with nature for a weekend. Things to remember when embarking on a trip to Lake Morena is that online reservations for the camp sites are highly recommended,  that it is extremely hot in Campo, CA so sunscreen is a must, and my last recommendation is that you should stop by Viejas Casino Resort as we did on your way back to San Diego to complete the adventurous weekend.

What To Eat On Fridays During The Lent Season?

Foodie Fridays: What to Eat on Fridays during Lent season?

It is the Lenten season, the Christian season of preparation before Easter in which Catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays in commemoration of Christ’s Passion and death.  It is unclear as to what meat we are to stay away from; in my experience, different families have different beliefs. In my family, we give up all red meat on Fridays and some white meat including chicken, and turkey but we can eat anything that comes from the sea. However, other families I know just abstain from eating red meat; for them chicken and turkey is fine to have on Fridays during the Lenten season.  For those of you who give up chicken and turkey as well as red meat and can’t think of a replacement that will give you the feeling that you are full here are some ideas.

Last Friday, my boyfriend and I wanted something filling and yummy but since it was Friday, we were having a hard time thinking about a place we could go eat at that offered non-meat options. We went down to Ocean Beach because according to yelp, South Beach Bar and Grille has the best fish tacos in San Diego. Completely excited we approached the front door only to be told by the “bouncer” we must be 21 years old to go into the restaurant/bar. Regardless, South Beach Bar and Grille had a great vibe and smelled yummy. For those of you who are 21 and over I recommend you check it out and then let me know by commenting below this how it was.

Still hungry, we wandered across the street and found the Newport Pizza and Ale house. They offer really tasty/affordable pizza in a relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the pesto pizza and cheese pizza their non-meat options and they did not disappoint.
After the Newport and Ale House, we were still craving fish tacos. So we ventured off to Wahoo’s Tacos in Point Loma. Their fish tacos the blackened as well as the regular are delicious! The blackened is a little spicy so beware. I also noticed that their other seafood options included fish teriyaki bowls. Definitely something I’m trying next time.
As you can see, there are many different foods that one can eat and different restaurants that one can go to and still have a delicious meal on Fridays during the Lenten season simply yelp it up! Make it an adventure, go restaurant hopping like we did, or simply journey off to a restaurant and/or location you’ve never frequented. It is so much fun!

Delicious Salvadorean Food In San Diego!

Foodie Fridays: El Salvadoreno Restaurant

For the best Salvadorean Food in town visit "El Salvadoreno Restaurant" on Imperial. They serve the largest and tastiest pupusas you will ever have as well as a variety of other traditional Salvadorean Meals. I went for the first time last Friday. Not knowing what to order the waiter/owner of the restaurant helped us by explaining our food options. I tried their "Pollo Encebollado" while my boyfriend tried a beef dish whose name I have forgotten. Both meals and the pupusas were truly fulfilling! If you are craving some spice in your life, got to "El Salvadoreno Restaurant" I personally recommend it.
